Jessica Andrade talks about how she was offered a title fight again Rose Namajunas, but instead took a fight against Karolina Kowalkiewicz, needing money and wanting to stay active.
“I couldn’t stay out for that long,” Andrade told MMA Fighting. “Even if I win the belt and bring it home, I want to stay active. I’m not that type of fighter that fights one or two times a year. Staying out makes you lose focus, lose rhythm. I have to fight.
“They said (Namajunas) wouldn’t come back before October, and I said ‘no, get me a fight sooner because I need money,’ and they got me this fight with Karolina. I know I’m ready and everything will be alright.”
Well that’s certainly a risk, gotta give Jessica respect for that. Karoline is a game opponent. Even with a victory it may come at a cost. Since Nicco Montana VS Valentina Shecchenko has been canceled, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Jessica Andrade will battle it out in the co-main event slot of UFC 228.
Winner more than likely moving on to fight Rose for the title. Both fighters are on a two fight win streak. It’s worth noting that Karolina holds a victory over current champ Rose Namajunas.
